The Alarm Industry Research & Educational Foundation (AIREF)’s 7th Annual Golf Classic got off to a brisk but sunny start at the Revere Golf Club in Henderson, Nev., just outside of Las Vegas. With temperatures in the upper 50s and winds out of the north-northwest at 20 to 25 mph at the tourney’s shotgun start, players had more than the course to contend with.

First place went to a foursome hosted by Bold Technologies. Playing were Troy Iverson of Avantguard, Sascha Kylau of DSC, Ty Davis of Southwest Dispatch and Chuck Speck of Bold Technologies. In addition to the ultimate bragging rights, each member of the team took home a $200 Bank of America gift card.

The second place foursome, each winners of a $150 Bank of America gift card and hosted by Vector Security, included AlarMax’s Bill Lew. He was joined by Michael Grady, Vince DiValerio and Rick Simpson, all of Vector Security. Third place went to a foursome hosted by Broadview Security. Joining Broadview’s David Simon was Bill Cooper of ADT, Mike Horgan of H&S Protection and David Koenig of Capital Lock. They each received a $100 Bank of America gift card.

In addition to the team results, $200 gift cards for Callaway Golf were awarded for closest to the pin on each of the courses four par-three holes, longest drive and straightest drive. Closest to the pin winners were Jimmy Corbett of United Alarm, Curtiss Weinstein of Absolute Security, Security Solution’s and AIREF Golf Co-chairman Jamie Orvis, and Gary Robbins of Stanley Convergent. Brian Harrison of Stanley Convergent won for longest drive, and ADT’s Bill Cooper took the prize for straightest drive.

About 100 golfers participated in the event, AIREF’s sole fundraising effort. The tournament followed a shamble format, a combination of scramble and best ball, and participants enjoyed a barbecue lunch at the clubhouse. Cocktails and snacks were served post-play.

“Participation is up this year,” Orvis said. “It says that people are still willing to come out and support a good cause.”

The fun continued after golfing was complete, as the participants were invited to The Rockhouse Bar and Night Club at the Imperial Palace for a reception with hors d’oeuvres, drinks and prize presentations.

Last Chance to Sign up for the 7th Annual Golf Classic

March 18th, 2010 No comments

The 7th Annual Alarm Industry Research & Educational Foundation (AIREF) golf tournament will be held March 23, 2010 at the Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas, one day prior to ISC West. The tournament promises players a casual golf outing with other industry professionals while supporting AIREF initiatives in the process.

AIREF, an all-volunteer nonprofit foundation, was created in 1977 by ESA to serve as the research arm of the industry and funding for the foundation is derived almost solely from the golf tournament. In 2003, ESA and AIREF founded the tournament as a way to help raise money for industry research.

Research studies funded by AIREF include a survey of Salt Lake City residents that showed 65 percent of registered voters disapprove of the city’s verified response ordinance and a more recent study by Rutgers University that proved scientifically that residential burglar alarms deter crime.

To register for the tournament, visit www.airef.org. For more information about the tournament and sponsorship opportunities, call (203) 762-2444 or email Pat Remes at premes@airef.org.
