Center for Campus Fire Safety Lends Support to NBFAA
CCFS Expresses Support for the Balanced Approach to Fire and Life Safety

Irving, Texas, Mar. 10, 2008 – The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association’s (NBFAA) balanced approach to fire and life safety received a boost recently with the endorsement of the Center for Campus Fire Safety (CCFS).

“The Center for Campus Fire Safety is pleased to show our support to the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association for your efforts in pursuit of a balanced approach to fire and life safety…I look forward to working with you,” said CCFS Executive Director Amy Hamel.

Since 2006, NBFAA has been working to educate government officials, agencies, consumers and others that a balanced approach to fire safety is the best way to save lives. The slogan, “Fire Detection plus Fire Suppression equals Fire Safety” has been the NBFAA’s motto throughout this campaign.

One of the outcomes of this campaign has been the introduction of legislation designed to enhance fire safety on college campuses. NBFAA began working with Rep.Vito Fossella, R-N.Y. to draft language that would establish a demonstration incentive program within the U.S. Department of Education to promote the professional installation of fire alarm detection systems, or other fire prevention technologies in qualified student housing, dormitories, and other university buildings. On Feb. 7, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a Higher Education Act, by a vote of 354-58, that included language from H.R. 1409, the College Life Safety and Fire Prevention Act introduced by Fossella.

“The addition of the CCFS will help us in our efforts to get this legislation signed into law. We’re gratified to have the assistance of an organization that provides a central focal point for the complex issues surrounding campus fire safety. We know that having them onboard will help us to generate support from all those individuals and organizations who are interested in campus fire safety,” explained NBFAA Director of Government Relations John Chwat.
