NBFAA Requests Public Review of Remote Supervising Stations Standard
Public Comments Solicited Aug. 11 through Sept. 25 for NBFAA SRSS-01
Irving, Texas, Aug. 10, 2006 – The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) has announced that the public review period for the NBFAA Standard for Remote Supervising Stations (SRSS-01) will begin tomorrow and remain through Sept. 25, 2006.
The purpose of SRSS-01 is to define the proper means of signal transmission from the protected premises; the receipt, recording and re-transmission of signals; and the notifications of emergency responders.
SRSS-01 provides the requirements for remote supervising stations and subsidiary stations, including transmission methods used to send fire alarm, supervisory and trouble signals and signals indicating restoration to normal, facility construction and protection, installation and maintenance requirements for all equipment and software necessary for its operation, standard operations and emergency operational procedures, including signal processing, and retransmission of signals to the local fire department (or similar agency) and record keeping.
A copy of the proposed code is available on NBFAA’s Web site at www.alarm.org. Comments may be sent to Dale Eller, NBFAA Director Education and Standards at nts@alarm.org.
Recognizing the impact that standards play in the industry, NBFAA provides its members with information on the status of current and evolving standards, and serves as an industry expert and advisor in the creation and on-going development of standards. In addition to being an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited standard-writing organization, NBFAA also has representatives on committees of both the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and International Code Council (ICC).
