George Gunning Leads New NBFAA Executive Committee

Irving, Texas, July 13, 2006 – George Gunning took the helm as president of the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) on July 1, 2006 along with a new executive committee representing the national scope of the electronic security industry’s largest professional trade association. Gunning becomes the first NBFAA president from the western United States in more than 30 years.

”The NBFAA provides an organizational structure that allows us to work together to enhance the environment in which we all conduct our business,” said Gunning, chief executive officer, USA Alarm Systems, Monrovia, California. “It provides a gathering place for our industry, and our members who are responsible for more than 70 percent of the work being done in the electronic security and fire/life safety industry.”

Gunning received the 2003 Morris F. Weinstock Award, is past president of the California Alarm Association, and is founding chairman of the Western Burglar & Fire Alarm Association Unilateral Apprenticeship and Training Committee. He has been an active member of the security industry for more than 20 years and has held leadership positions in local, state and national trade associations.

Upon taking the helm, Gunning reminded members of the importance of their mission. “I believe that the work we do every day in our businesses makes a positive contribution to the quality of life for our customers and the communities we serve.

“Our agenda as an association should come from the shared goals and objectives of our member companies. NBFAA will grow and prosper as an organization as long as we are serving their business needs. I believe that focusing our energy and resources on the individual member company will serve as the foundation for the next stage of growth and expansion of NBFAA,” Gunning explained.

David Koenig of Wisconsin and John Knox of Tennessee are two newly elected executive committee members who will join Mike Miller of Washington, Counte Cooley of Georgia, Dom D’Ascoli of North Carolina, Marshall Marinace of New York and Scot Colby of Louisiana.

“The NBFAA has benefited from strong volunteer leadership under the guidance of Scot Colby, and we are now in a position to expand current programs and develop new initiatives that benefit the NBFAA member,” said Gunning. “The geographic diversity of our executive committee represents all regions of the U.S., and I look forward to working with them, our Board of Directors, our Chartered State Associations and our members to continue the growth of professionalism in our industry.”
