FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NBFAA Endorses the Agricultural Business Security Tax Credit Act of 2005
Recent Proposed Legislation to Benefit the Security Industry
Irving, Texas, Dec. 8, 2005 - The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) today announced the association’s endorsement of federal legislation recently introduced by Senators Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Ben Nelson (D-NE). Titled ”The Agricultural Business Security Tax Credit Act of 2005,” this legislation would provide tax credits on the amount paid to implement security measures at agricultural facilities where pesticides and fertilizers are stored.
Agriculture retailers, distributors, manufacturers, formulators and aerial applicators of agricultural pesticides or fertilizers would be eligible for the credit. Under this proposal, eligible agricultural businesses would be able to partially offset significant security costs with a tax credit equivalent to 30 percent of the aggregate amount paid on implementing security measures at covered sites, up to $100,000 per facility for expenditures including:
According to press announcements from Senators Roberts and Nelson, this legislation will help to protect the nation from terrorists and other illegal activity by improving security at sites where agricultural chemicals are stored.
“NBFAA has endorsed this legislation as a way to help fight and win the war on terrorism. It is widely known that hazardous and volatile chemicals are used in agriculture and should be secured from threats, and this is one way to help businesses take the necessary steps to keep the materials in the right hands and to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s food supply. The country’s electronic security industry stands ready to do our part to make the country secure,” said NBFAA Executive Director, Merlin Guilbeau.
