Silver Spring, MD— The Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) along with the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) teamed-up once again to present a pictureperfect day of “Golf Without Guilt” on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 during the NBFAA Spring Conference and Chartered State Association (CSA) Symposium, the day before the ISC West Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In only its second year, the AIREF/NBFAA Golf Tournament has become widely known as the newest “must do event” for ISC West Show attendees. For many that attend the Show, enjoying a leisurely day of golf, the day before the start of ISC West, is the perfect way to relax and prepare for the upcoming three days of exhibiting, networking, and/or selling products. Dubbed “Golf Without Guilt,” the event is AIREF’s sole fundraiser. For Golf Tournament co-chairs, Bart Didden and Jamie Orvis, they see the event only continuing to grow in size and importance.
“When we ‘Golf Without Guilt’, we are doing more than joining our friends and colleagues on the greens for a great time, we are also supporting our industry and the mission of AIREF, so it turns out to be a nice mix of business and pleasure,” said Tournament Chair Orvis.
Merlin Guilbeau, NBFAA executive director, was very impressed with the planning of the event as well as the support received from the industry through player participation and sponsorships.
“The event has turned out to be a great thing to do before the start of the ISC West Show. We play on a beautiful, award-winning course while benefiting our industry, and I personally thank everyone that participated-in or sponsored this year’s event. Let’s do it again next year!” said Guilbeau.
This year’s tournament winners include the first place foursome of Craig Summers, Hugh Blair, Charlie Gallardo, and Dave Kosciuk; second place foursome of Ken Parker, Bill Lew, John Bellave, Thad Gravo; third place foursome of Steve Firestone, Michael Harrison, Steve Dunn, and Michael Ross.
After a day of golf, players, staff, NBFAA leaders, and industry supporters all gathered at the Tangerine Lounge and Nightclub at Treasure Island for the AIREF/NBFAA Evening Event where the prestigious Sara E. Jackson and Morris F. Weinstock awards were presented. The 2005 Sara E. Jackson Award was presented to NBFAA Treasurer, Mike Miller, in recognition of his outstanding leadership as a committee chairperson for the NBFAA. As an industry veteran, Miller has been involved in the alarm and security business for over 30 years. The 2004 Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year Award was presented to NBFAA Immediate Past President, Cecil Hogan, in recognition of a lifetime of service to the electronic life safety, security, and systems industry. Hogan has served in many volunteer-leadership capacities within the NBFAA throughout his career. The evening continued with a buffet of heavy hors d’oeuvres, good music, and an open bar.
Attendees were very impressed with the day’s events, and praised AIREF/NBFAA for their efforts.
Dean Russo, Industry Vice President of Reed Exhibitions, remarked that his company is proud to support these two events. “Reed Exhibitions and ISC West are proud to be a supporter of the AIREF/NBFAA golf tournament and Evening Event. Both events were a huge success, and very well attended. We look forward to supporting both events again in 2006,” Russo said.
“The course was awesome—a fantastic layout with breathtaking views. It was a wonderful day of golf for a good cause, and I made some great new friends in the industry. My team had a great time playing,” said golfer Steven Klindworth, founder and CEO of Supercircuits.
Next year’s golf tournament will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2006. Those interested in reserving sponsorship opportunities should contact Tonja Jenkins, NBFAA director of business development at TonjaJ@alarm.org or (817) 685-0339.
