This book is full of the history and legacy of the NBFAA. Readers can see photos from some of NBFAA’s very first conventions, read articles written by past presidents during their tenure, discover interesting tidbits on how things were done 60 years ago and learn about the history of the association. The book’s 208 pages highlight the hard work and dedication of our volunteer leaders and our members. The book is the perfect exclamation point to a great, sometimes bumpy, 60 years. Every current member will receive a copy of the book by mail in late June or early July so be looking for your copy. Copies of the book will also be available during the Electronic Security Expo (ESX), June 26 – 27, at NBFAA’s booth. They can be purchased for $35 for a soft cover or $50 for a special edition hard cover. NBFAA Awards $21,000 in Scholarships to Children of Police and Firefighters
To achieve this honor, Joseph first had to enter and win the Ohio Burglar & Fire Alarm Youth Scholarship Program and then compete with the other state winners from around the country. For his outstanding academic achievements, community activities and well written essay, Joseph will receive a $10,000 scholarship from NBFAA. Joseph is a graduate of Kirtland High School where he maintained a perfect GPA and received a resounding 2290 on his SAT. Joseph was accepted to a number of top-ranked schools, and will be heading to the University of Alabama in the fall. Joseph’s father, Joseph Daniel Pavlisko, is a firefighter and paramedic with the South Euclid fire Department. In his essay, Joseph had this to say about his father, “My father has always been there for me when I needed him most- and I think most dads try to do the same. He has, however, also been there for the community whenever it needed help; and that, I think, is what sets my dad, the firefighter, apart.” Joseph will be in attendance during the Morris F. Weinstock and Sara E. Jackson Memorial Awards presentations on June 24, so be sure to register to show your support for Joseph and his family.
Her father is a North Carolina State Trooper and chief of the East Side fire Department in Randolph County. In her essay Mallory wrote, “He has shown me through his example that there is never a time to stop giving back to your community. There will always be a way to make a difference, no matter what career I choose for my life.”
Her father, Richard Geedey, is a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper. In her essay she wrote, “Having my father working to secure our community means the world to me. I could not be more proud of him and the work he does to protect the safety and to provide for my family.” Since its creation, the Youth Scholarship Program has provided the children of police and firefighters with more than $270,000 in scholarships. In addition each of the state winners receives a scholarship from their state association. Students who reside in states, without a chartered NBFAA chapter or in a state with non-participating state association submit their applications directly to the NBFAA and from them one is chosen to compete against the state winners as the national nominee. This year the NBFAA Executive Committee decided to offer the national nominee a $1,000 scholarship to honor that individual’s achievement as well. This year’s national nominee was Alyssa Rosson, a graduate of Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City. NBFAA Elections UnderwayAll primary voting representatives should have received an election ballot in the mail for the election of new officers. Ballots must be received by the NBFAA no later than June 12 to be counted. This year’s candidates are: Uncontested Candidate for 2-Year Term as Secretary Uncontested Candidate for 2-Year Term as Vice President Uncontested Candidate for 2-Year Term as Vice President Contested Candidate for 1 Year Term as Vice President Contested Candidate for 1 Year Term as Vice President Contested Candidate for 1 Year Term as Vice President Questions about election issues should be directed to NBFAA at (888) 447-1689. Wireless communications continues to transform the traditional landscape of the security enterprise and network. At the Port of Richmond in Richmond, Calif., for example, the recent installation of some 82 cameras (64 fixed and 18 pan-tilt-zoom) came down to a face-off between fiber optics and wireless, said Norman Chan, port administrator of the Port of Richmond. "We looked at fiber optics and wireless and decided that the wireless would be more cost effective and allow us to expand and scale the system up as necessary," he said.

Parents can now check-in on their toddlers and children anytime from anywhere, thanks to Napco’s new iSee Video remote surveillance system. Monitor your babies in their crib or room to make sure they are properly cared for by your babysitter or nanny. Add peace-of-mind by receiving alerts via cell phone or e-mail for feedings, changing’s and naps. With iSee Video you’ll know if your toddlers and children are getting the care they deserve.
Monitor your children even as they become more independent. Receive notifications when they get home and view video to see who might be with them. Keep an eye as they play outdoors to see what they are doing. If you have a pool on your premise, iSee Video will monitor and alert you of any unsafe conditions, i.e., neighborhood children are swimming without adult supervision. Our video “look in” service makes it easy for you to check-in on your loved ones while you are on the road, at the office or on vacation. iSee Video is affordable, works with all Web browsers and is powerful enough to get through corporate/MIS firewalls (key when parents are at work).
Our plug and play surveillance system is so simple that no computer is required at your home and there is no software to load. All that is required is a Web-enabled cell phone, Blackberry, iPhone, Razr or PC. Simply hook iSee Video to new or existing video camera(s) to check-in on your children instantly. View live or stored video “clips” anytime from anywhere and/or archive date-/time-stamped stored video for later reference or retrieval. Integrators and alarm dealers will like the idea of offering their clients iSee Video’s powerful monitoring solution while they collect recurring monthly revenue (RMR) from CCTV video installations in new and retrofit applications. To view a live demonstration, visit www.napcosecurity.com. For a complete listing of professional security dealers in your area, contact (800) 645-9445.
Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) continues to expand its 1100 Series of two-way supervised wireless devices with the newly released 1131 Wireless Contact. The 1131 can be used to provide discreet, concealed protection for doors, windows, or other applications. It is compatible with all DMP 1100 Series receivers.
Like all transmitters in the DMP 1100 Series, the 1131 Wireless Contact employs 900 mega-hertz frequency-hopping spread spectrum to ensure clear and accurate signal transmissions without interference in practically any environment. The 1131 comes ready to install, including a battery and hardware kit. DMP wireless equipment uses energy-conserving two-way communication, giving the 1131 an expected battery life of five years. Installation is made simpler by the on-board light emitting diode (LED) that provides built-in survey capability for single-person installations and eliminates the need for an external survey kit.
Bosch Security Systems, Inc., a full-line manufacturer of security solutions, is adding the UPA Series Power Supplies to its product portfolio. The UPA Series provides energy efficient operation when used with Bosch series CCD, Megapixel cameras, keyboards and other professional surveillance products.
The UPA 60 hertz (Hz) models are designed specifically to meet the strict efficiency standards and laws being adopted in the United States. They meet or exceed the International Energy Efficiency Level IV requirements.
The small size and high energy efficiency rating of these power supplies also make them ideal for powering a wide range of other low-power security products including Allegiant® system accessories and control devices.
