The State of Louisiana Signs off on the Louisiana Fire/Life Safety Apprenticeship Program

Louisiana joined other states to bring NBFAA’s apprenticeship program to the industry in that region. Here is a letter sent from Ron Foreman to George Gunning, announcing the news:

Dear George,

We are pleased to announce today that the LLSSA’s apprenticeship program’s Standards have been approved by the Louisiana Department of Labor's Apprenticeship Division. We feel that we have now crossed a major hurdle toward a “true career path” via registered apprenticeship. As you know Louisiana is in dire need of a trained employee workforce.

I would like to thank you, personally, and the NBFAA and the original donors and contributors to this fine program. This would not have been possible without the support of the NBFAA and the work of Art Webster and Nan Snow and the courses developed by California. The contributions and efforts of our national association and our chartered chapters are clearly recognized by the Louisiana Association and the Apprenticeship Council.

Once again, the strength of a national association of chartered chapters is demonstrated.

As stated in today’s meeting, Registered Apprenticeship is now recognizing its 70th Year.  It was noted that the NBFAA is celebrating its 60th Anniversary.

I believe today was a great accomplishment for all of us and a credit to NBFAA, California, and your consultants.

We look forward to this new” Workforce Initiative” for our industry in Louisiana. Also, I look forward to thanking you in person in Nashville.

Sincerely,

Ron Foreman
LLSSA, Apprenticeship Chairman
Chairman of the Board of Directors

Ron Petrarca, Apprentice Committee chairman, congratulated Art Webster, Apprenticeship Program consultant, the Louisiana association and Ron Foreman on a job well done.

Senators Introduce Small Business Health Care Bill

A bipartisan group of Senators introduced a bill April 2 that would allow for the creation of small business pools for health insurance, and create incentives for businesses to provide their employees with health insurance. The bill would allow small businesses to band together and spread risk over a large number of participants in order to obtain lower premiums. According to the sponsors, the bill would also encourage small businesses to provide their employees with health insurance by giving the businesses a tax credit of up to $1,000 per employee.

NBFAA is a member of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Health Plan Coalition. Consisting of over one hundred trade associations, the NFIB Coalition is supporting The Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). The bill contains many of the principles necessary to help small businesses find and afford health care, and will be useful in continuing the dialogue about health care reform for small business.
