It’s New, It’s Fresh, It’s NBFAA’s All New Web site
If you haven’t been to NBFAA’s Web site recently, you might want to check it out. After surveying your needs in 2006, the association undertook the arduous task of a complete redesign of the Web site in 2007.
The new site has been reorganized to better serve our key audiences:
The look and feel of the new site should make information more accessible for you and for others who visit www.alarm.org.
Members should continue to use the 2007 passwords when accessing Members Only information, until they receive the new passwords in their 2008 membership materials.
Also, coming in the future, members and chapters will have the ability to access their personal information from the Web site and update it accordingly.
It’s an exciting time at NBFAA with the creation of ESX and our 60th anniversary celebration. The new Web site is an example of our commitment to customer service and member satisfaction.
We welcome your comments and suggestions for the new site. We believe you will find the site helpful and informative, but if you have a suggestion on how it can be even better, you can find all our contact information under Contact Us from the new site.

We’ve got questions, You’ve got answers
We’ve got lots of questions actually. We are frequently asked by media and consumers for specific statistics about our membership, the industry and the technology that is used.
In order to better serve your interests – we will begin surveying our membership regularly through requests in Member Update, Newsline and by e-mail. These surveys will be as simple as answering a single question, to answering several questions. Results of the surveys will be posted both online and in our various publications throughout the year.
We encourage all of our members to participate in the surveys to help ensure the most accurate data possible.
The surveys will start with this issue of Member Update. We thought it would be fun to begin the process by having our inaugural question be light-hearted and interesting. Keep in mind, while the question may seem silly, it is one we have been asked before by both consumers and the media.
 |
Please describe one of your more unusual requests from a customer. (For example, has a customer ever asked you to install a security system for an odd, or unusual reason? Have they asked you to place security systems in strange places or for strange items?) |
To complete this survey click on the link below or simply e-mail your answer to communications@alarm.org, subject Survey Answer.

SDM 100 Gala to Be Held at ESX
The third annual SDM 100 Gala will be held in conjunction with the Electronic Security Expo (ESX) in Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the Nashville Renaissance Hotel. The SDM 100 Gala is an elegant social event, honoring the industry’s leading executives from SDM 100 ranked security companies. Last year’s event attracted more than 75 executives and their guests.
Since 1990, SDM has surveyed yearly the largest security dealers operating in the United States, tabulated the results of these surveys, and ranked the firms from largest to smallest in a report called the SDM 100, published each May. In a $29.5 billion industry (based on SDM’s January 2007 Forecast Study), these largest 100 firms captured $6.95 billion in total revenue – about 24 percent market share – and counted 11.3 million subscribers in the most recently reported year.
“SDM Magazine Gala 100 is a welcome addition to the new ESX event,” said George Gunning, NBFAA President and CEO of USA Alarm Systems, Inc. in California. “We are honored that SDM has chosen to bring their gala here and be a part of this industry-owned event created for the sole purpose of giving back to the industry.”
“We are pleased to have SDM Magazine hosting its prestigious SDM 100 Gala at the inaugural ESX,” added Bud Wulforst, president of the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) and president of A-1 Security Ltd. “ESX offers education programming, special events and an exposition of the highest value for installation and monitoring companies.”
“ESX is an exciting new event venture for CSAA and NBFAA and, with its pure focus on installing and monitoring company education and inspiration, a perfect fit for the SDM 100 Gala,” said Mark McCourt, publisher of SDM magazine. “We’re looking forward to a great event!”

North American Video Installs IP Security in New Jersey Schools, Earns Cisco Premier Partner Certification
Five schools within New Jersey’s Brick Township Public School District have graduated to a wide area network (WAN)-based Internet protocol (IP) video surveillance system that will help to improve the safety and security environment for the schools’ students, staff and visitors.
Effective security measures like this implemented by local officials have earned Brick, N.J. a fifth place ranking on the list of safest cities in America. The new IP-based security system was designed and installed by North American Video (NAV) along with Net Q Multimedia.
All five schools are connected on a WAN and the system records 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More importantly, it offers real time secure Internet viewing access to local police, fire and school administration officials so they can respond in a more informed manner in the event of an incident requiring their intervention.
NAV was also recently named a Cisco Premier Certified Partner in the U. S. after meeting all criteria established by Cisco for personnel and support requirements. In so doing, NAV has demonstrated that they are qualified to sell, install, and support Cisco solutions.
Cisco Certified Partners offer validated skills in one or more technology specialties, ranging from core routing and switching infrastructure and unified communications, to wireless local access network (LAN) deployment and multi-level security. NAV staff has earned multiple Cisco certifications and partake in ongoing specialized training as well as training on Cisco Lifecycle Services methodologies to help them improve deployments and improve client satisfaction.
As a Cisco Certified Partner, NAV will be required to measure customer satisfaction and will be independently audited by Cisco to ensure a uniform standard of excellence is maintained. Re-certification is required on a yearly basis.
