Plans are underway for NBFAA’s 60th Anniversary celebration, which will begin in 2008. Part of this celebration will include the publishing of an NBFAA tribute book that will illustrate the association’s and industry's history. All current members in 2008 will receive a copy of the tribute book. We will also be distributing the tribute book at the inaugural ESX event in Nashville. (More information about ESX.)
One of the highlights of the tribute book will be the stories of the many multi-generational companies that have helped our industry grow. But we need your help to tell those stories. Please contact us if your family’s company spans multiple generations. We want to feature YOU.
Also, we are hoping to highlight as many of the long-time NBFAA member companies as we can. So please, let us hear your stories, how long you’ve been in business and where you want your company and the industry to go. If you have photos of your company when it first started and what it is like today, send those as well.

Save the Date for the First Leadership Summit Held in Dallas
Save the date for the NBFAA Leadership Summit which begins Wednesday, January 16 and runs through Friday, January 18.
This three-day event, to be held in Dallas, will include a chapter workshop, committee meetings, the board of directors’ breakfast and meeting as well as a meet-and-greet reception and a leadership dinner.

Georgia Announces Chapter Office Grand Opening
The Georgia Electronic Life Safety and Systems Association (GELSSA) Executive Board is pleased to announce the official opening of the new GELSSA office and the hiring of Suzanne Farr as the administrator.

Study: Businesses to Increase Network Security Spending in 2008
Cisco recently released a set of results from an additional international study examining mobile workers’ security behavior with regard to corporate security and its impact on businesses, revealing widespread plans to increase security spending by as much as 20 percent next year to protect expanding wireless networks and the growing numbers of mobile employees who access them.

Dallas Repeals Verified Response Policy
Ignoring Police Chief David Kunkle’s recommendations, the Dallas City council repealed its “verified response” burglar alarm policy, meaning police officers will again automatically respond to all commercial alarm calls.

Dallas Police Will Resume Response; Mayor Says False Alarms Still an Issue
Effective Oct. 1, the Dallas police department will once again be responding to commercial burglar alarms. In a decision that may be a portent for the entire alarm industry, the Dallas City Council voted 11-4 on Sept. 12 to rescind its response verification policy for commercial alarms.

Arcuri Unveils Critical Fire Safety Legislation to Protect Seniors
On Sept. 14, U.S. Representative Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) unveiled legislation he introduced in Congress to provide nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospices with resources to upgrade fire detection and suppression equipment to ensure the safety of their residents.

McKinney, Texas to Implement ‘No Permit No Response’ Alarm Policy
All homeowners and business owners in McKinney, Texas are now required to register their alarm systems with the city. Beginning Oct. 1, the McKinney Police Department will no longer respond to alarm systems not registered. In addition, failure to register an alarm system could result in a fine of up to $500.
The annual registration fees are $50 for residential and $100 for commercial/business alarm systems. An alarm system may consist of one type or various types of alarms including burglary, robbery, panic, duress, medical or fire. Each permit for an alarm system covers one building. All alarms initiated by a person, for example panic, hold-up or eye witness report of a crime, will continue to be responded to regardless of a permit.
Alarm system registration payments can be made online at www.mckinneytexas.org; check by mail to City of McKinney, Alarm Program, P.O. Box 140549, Irving, TX 75039; or dropped off at the City of McKinney Utility Billing Department, 222 N. Tennessee St., during regular business hours. A new alarm system permit form must be filled out when making payment. Questions regarding obtaining permits may be directed to 972-831-7493.

Brivo Receives CE Certification for European Distribution
Brivo Systems LLC recently announced that its access control system has received Conformité Européenne CE certification and may now be exported to the European Union and member states of the European Free Trade Association.
CE certification is bestowed on products that meet all requirements of the European Directives applicable to electrical and electronic equipment. CE certification for electronic access control systems is required before the product may be sold within countries that belong to the European Union (EU) and European Free Trade Association.
The certification is the final step Brivo needed to ensure its products were ready for export to Europe.
Napco Introduces Freedom to Choose, iSee Video

Brivo Expands End User Options with New ACS OnSite SE Appliance Controller
Brivo Systems LLC recently announced the product launch of Onsite SE (Systems Edition), a powerful information technology (IT) appliance-based access control solution for users who wish to retain configuration and event data within their organization’s own network.
OnSite SE uses a rack-mounted embedded Web platform capable of provisioning and managing multiple networked control panels spanning up to 300 readers. It extends the functionality and features of the ACS OnSite product, Brivo’s Web-connected access control system designed for customers who want to keep their access control data within their own information security perimeter.
Honeywell Releases 2007-08 Video and Access Systems Product Catalogs
Honeywell recently announced the release of its latest Video Systems and Access Systems product catalogs. The two catalogs include Honeywell’s newest security offerings, and provide dealers with one-stop access to information on the company’s full line of video and access products.
The Video Systems Product Catalog includes products such as Honeywell’s new Intelligent Video Analytics software, which reviews vast amounts of raw video in real time using rules-based object detection, classification and tracking to distinguish suspicious activity. Also featured are Honeywell’s new True Day/Night cameras: the HD4D vandal dome camera and the HCD92534 infrared bullet camera. Dealers and en users can also sign up to receive additional information on Honeywell’s new Internet protocol (IP) Network solutions as it becomes available.
