“A number of documents will be ones that I do not consult in the low-voltage industry,” he said. “That is the purpose of naming members to the Council, that a cross section of industry and knowledge is represented. I am honored to serve on the Council with the twelve other members, and hope that I can learn from their expertise.”

NFPA Endorses H.R. 4460 College Life Safety Bill

Congressman Vito Fossella first introduced "The College Life Safety and Fire Prevention Act" (H.R. 4460) in December.
|
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has joined with the NBFAA to endorse H.R. 4460, “The College Life Safety and Fire Prevention Act.”
The new legislation is designed to establish a demonstration incentive program within the U.S. Department of Education to promote the professional installation of fire alarm detection systems, or other fire prevention technologies in qualified student housing, dormitories, and other university buildings. Under the provisions of the bill, the program would award matching grants to eligible institutions, including colleges, universities and tax-exempt fraternities and sororities.
Director of Government Relations for the NBFAA John Chwat said he was pleased with the NFPA stepping up and supporting the legislation.
“This is an excellent first step in bringing detection into Congressional legislation,” Chwat said. “And we encourage other organizations to follow the lead of the NFPA, and support such an important cause, because it is not just endorsing a bill; it is trying to provide safety and security for our institutions of higher education.”
