Industry NewsIQ Program Embarks on a Targeted International Campaign Starting in Canada Although CANASA, the Canadian Security Association, has been endorsing IQ Certification for several years and there already are alarm companies in Canada who have received IQ Certification, most major efforts by IQ have targeted the U.S. "We are thrilled with the interest we've received so far," said IQ Certification Executive Director Dale Eller. "The dealers we met at CANASA understand the marketing benefits of the IQ symbol. They know that consumers will have the extra peace of mind knowing they've hired a company they can trust and that adheres to the rigid set of rules and conditions set by the IQ Program. To receive their IQ Certification, alarm companies must follow strict installation and false alarm prevention guidelines. They must agree to a stringent code of ethics, have superior maintenance and service programs and train their employees in industry-recognized programs. In addition, they must meet all licensing requirements, have proper insurance coverage and recertify every year. In addition, IQ certified alarm companies must monitor with an IQ Certified monitoring station. For more information on the IQ certification program, visit www.alarm.org. Bill to Provide Grants for Colleges That Use Fire Life Safety Detection Equipment
The Congressman used the occasion to call attention to his bill that seeks to provide a matching federal grant program to colleges and universities for the professional installation of fire life safety detection equipment in college buildings, dorms, and other locations. It is the first major fire detection equipment bill in the Congress. Speaking in favor of the bill were NBFAA members Tony LaMorte, APCO Security Solutions, and Eddie Keshecki, Statewide Fire Corp. Additional representatives included fire chiefs from the New York Fire Department, Richard Callery and John Bambury, and the Chief of Staff to the President of Wagner College, David Martin. Fire Chief Bambury said at the conference, “One thing I know about college dorms nationwide is that there are a lot of fires and a lot of deaths. The most important thing to have is a fire alarm that gives early notification to the fire department. I’ve never witnessed a fatal fire when both a sprinkler and an alarm system were operative.” The press conference was a part of Rep. Fossella’s efforts to secure public and industry support for his legislation as the new 109th Congress, 2nd Session begins in January 2006.
