Mission Possible: Accept the Challenge and Attend the Spring ConferenceThe 2006 NBFAA Spring Conference & Chartered State Association (CSA) Symposium is just around the corner. The theme of the 2006 Spring Conference, Mission Possible, highlights the importance of the association’s overall mission and the belief that we can achieve it every day. Throughout the conference, and next year, we will expand on this theme, bringing people and ideas together to benefit members, CSA chapters and the industry.
Highlights of the conference will include: NBFAA welcomes back the NBFAA/CSA Symposium that begins Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m. This year Dan Cain, founder and president of Cain Consulting Group, Inc, a nationally recognized authority in management and governance, will present a workshop for attendees. Giving honor where honor is due. Join us Monday at the Awards Luncheon as we award outgoing NBFAA leaders for their guidance, dedication, and service to the industry. Special awards to be presented by NBFAA President, Scot Colby. On Tuesday, April 4, the day before ISC West opens, NBFAA and the Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) will host the third annual AIREF/NBFAA Golf Tournament. With proceeds from the event going to support AIREF’s industry research and outreach, this is truly a day of Golf Without Guilt for participants at the Revere Golf Club, one of Las Vegas’ premier golf courses.

Check out the Web for the Latest on the 2006 Youth Scholarship ProgramSpread the word to your local community’s fire and police departments about the 2006 NBFAA Youth Scholarship Program and help us encourage their children’s participation! The application, guidelines and more information are at www.alarm.org. Launched in 1996, today NBFAA and participating Chartered State Associations take part in the program. The first place winner of each state’s own scholarship program is automatically considered for the national NBFAA Youth Scholarship Program awards. The first place winner of the national NBFAA Youth Scholarship Program receives $6,500 to put toward their college education and the second place award winner receives $3,500. Students may apply directly for consideration in the national program if they reside in a state that does not participate. So don’t forget to spread the word and together we can ensure a bright future for the children of our police and fire departments. The application, guidelines and more information are located at www.alarm.org. The deadline for applicants in non-participating states is May 5, 2006. Advanced Burglar Alarm Technician Certified Alarm Tech Fire Alarm Installation Methods Security Networking Institute Chapter NewsAlarm Association of Puerto Rico Celebrates 10 Year AnniversaryThe Alarm Association of Puerto Rico (AAPR) celebrated its 10 year anniversary as an association at a mini convention held Nov. 17 in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. “We want the people and the government of Puerto Rico to know more about our association,” said Annie Santiago (Security Group Corporation), president of AAPR. “I’m excited about the convention and I hope to increase our membership along with member benefits.” Jorge Rivas, director of Chapter Relations, Membership and Events for the NBFAA, made a presentation to the AAPR on the benefits of joining the national association. Additionally, Rivas introduced two new member benefits programs designed specifically for the San Juan area. A press conference was also held to announce the participation of the AAPR in the Youth Scholarship Program for the children of police and firemen. The convention concluded with a cocktail hour where Santiago recognized the ex-presidents of the AAPR, professionals who helped in the foundation of the association in 1995, and the companies who have maintained membership in AAPR throughout the 10 years. Iowa Alarm Association Announces Election ResultsThe Iowa Alarm Association (IAA) announced their 2006 officer election results. All voting members unanimously decided to keep all existing officers from 2005 in their same respective positions for the 2006 period. The IAA officers are as follows: Jeff Altmayer (Security Equipment Company), president/chartered state association director; Richard Jeager (RJS Electric Inc.), vice president; Harold Freeman (Freeman Electric Security Systems), secretary; and Ken Samek (Hawkeye Alarm & Signal Co.), treasurer. The following were elected as chairs of the IAA committees: Bill Howard (Howard and Sons Fire Alarm Sales and Service LLC), legislative and training; Harold Freeman (Freeman Electric Security Systems), annual product show and state expo; and Don Brown (PerMar Security Services), as the membership chair. Currently, the IAA is working on a state fire alarm licensing bill in conjunction with the state fire marshal. Member NewsHoneywell Security Launches New Web Site for Vertical MarketsHoneywell recently introduced a new Web site featuring information about integrated security solutions for eleven vertical markets: airports, gaming, biopharma, government, financial, retail, education, transportation, corrections, industrial and utilities. The Web site, www.security.honeywell.com/solutions, gives security directors a "one-stop shop" for products, literature, news, case studies, testimonials, tools and demonstrations for their industry. "Honeywell understands the unique challenges each industry faces, and through this Web site, we're using our knowledge to help simplify our customers' buying decisions," said Brigid McDermott, director of Strategic Marketing for Honeywell Security. "Customers now have a single site where they can find information about video, access and intrusion solutions for their business." Brink’s Opens New Office in Rhode IslandBrink’s Home Security recently opened its fourth new branch office of the year. The new branch is located in Lincoln, R.I., and will serve the Providence metro area and surrounding community. Other new Brink’s Home Security branch offices opened this year include: Orlando, Fla., Atlanta, Ga. and Frederick, Md. “The convenience of this site in Rhode Island will help us perform service and sales calls more quickly,” said Tina Elgin, Northeast Regional Director for Brink’s Home Security. “Before opening the new branch, all Providence-area metro customers were served out of our office located north of Boston. The new branch office will allow us to expand our reach within the home security market.” John Tanner, who previously served as Technical Manager in the Boston branch office, will head the Lincoln Branch Office as General Manager.
