Veterans Day was originally established as Armistice Day on Nov. 11, 1918, a day to remember fallen soldiers and the end of World War 1. In 1954, the name was changed to honor and remember veterans of all the wars. As our countrymen and women continue to provide for our country’s security and safety, it has never been a more important time for us to remember and give thanks to those who have given so much of themselves for us to enjoy our daily liberties and ensure our freedom. NBFAA encourages everyone to remember Veterans Day on Nov. 11. 2006 Golf Without Guilt: Signup Now and Save $$ Held April 4, 2006 – a day before the ISC West show in Las Vegas – at the Revere Golf Club, the Golf Without Guilt tournament helps benefit industry research and is a great way to network with others in the industry. The $275 fee covers golf cart, all fees, lunch AND the evening event. AIREF, an all-volunteer, non-profit group dedicated to conducting research for the development of policy that benefits the public interest as well as the interests of the electronic life safety, security and systems industry, benefits directly from this event. For more information about the tournament, sponsorships or NBFAA’s Spring Conference and CSA Symposium at ISC West in Las Vegas, contact Jorge Rivas, director of Chapter Relations, Membership and Events, at ( 888) 447-1689. The symposium will be held at the National Conference Center at the Ramada Inn in East Windsor, N.J., on Jan. 24, 2006. This one day event will feature brand new training sessions and exhibits, and you can choose from one of three full-day sessions. To save you time and money, this meeting has been designed to replace the traditional Atlantic City Convention and Trade Show. For more information, please call (609) 695-4444. Member NewsAlarm.com Announces Compatibility with GE Security NetworX PanelsAlarm.com announced that the GE Security NetworX NX-4, NX-6, NX-8, and NX-8E series of security panels are now certified to work with Alarm.com. With the Alarm.com Wireless Gateway Module installed in the certified NetworX panel, end-user customers will benefit from line cut-proof wireless signal forwarding to the central station, as well as the ability to control their panel and view panel activity via a secure Internet connection. Bruce Scott, President and CEO of Scott Alarm, said he tested the compatibility. “The installation was easy, and Alarm.com’s customer Web site is great. It’s simple for our customers to remotely arm and disarm their systems, set up user codes, and receive notifications for events that are important to them, such as getting an email or text message when their system is armed or disarmed, or when a sensor in their system is activated, even when the system is in a disarmed state.” Both Alarm.com and GE Security are associate members of NBFAA. Honeywell Provides Security Systems for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Ten years ago, six-year-old Morgan Nick vanished while catching fireflies at a ballpark. Her mother, Colleen Nick, has continued to search for her eldest daughter, and through her efforts, more than 100 abducted children have been returned to their families. The Nick family's home was in need of some major improvements because they have focused all of their time and efforts on the Morgan Nick Foundation, which works with police to provide education to parents designed to prevent abduction. For the Nick family's new dream home, Honeywell provided security systems including the Optiflex video surveillance system, a Vista control panel, an Aurora PIR motion detector, smoke detectors and structured cabling from the Genesis series, which allows the family's electronics and appliances to be connected for total home networking. "Honeywell is proud to be a part of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, a show that's changing the lives of so many people through innovative home technology," said Rich Simonetti, senior vice president of Sales for Honeywell. "The Nick family is deserving of a home where they don't have to worry about security or protection, and Honeywell's security solutions will help make that possible."
