Verified Response Under Consideration in Dallas

Last week, a public hearing was held in Dallas, concerning the issue of Verified Response. NBFAA received a brief update from the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) Executive Director Stan Martin, who attended the hearing.

The Dallas City Council chambers were filled to capacity with 300 seats taken, and other rooms had to be opened for overflow. Martin said the overall mood and sentiment of the crowd was clearly anti-Verified Response as 64 residents and 15 non-residents signed up to speak before the council, and of the 40 Dallas residents who actually spoke, 35 were against Verified Response and five for it. Of the nine non-residents who spoke, five were against and four for Verified Response.

In the end, the mayor asked for a vote to continue the open public hearing on the issue for a one-hour session on Oct. 26.

In addition to the public hearing, the Dallas Morning News published an article, “Taxpayers’ Money Used to Lobby City.”

The article informed readers that their taxpayers’ money was funding only one side of the Verified Response issue. Martin plans on further investigating this issue and said SIAC’s interest in public safety is genuine and believes the use of taxpayers’ money by the city was bad public policy for the citizens of Dallas.

Martin also said the North Texas Alarm Association leadership team continues to do a great job of responding to this issue in a positive and professional manner.

Stay tuned to NBFAA Communications and we will keep you up to date on the latest information on important industry issues like Verified Response.

Editor’s Note: Security Sales & Integration recently published an article concerning this issue called, “Dallas Council Hears From Critics of Verified Response, Accused of Funding Lobbying to Itself.”
