ADT Monitoring Service Aids the Elderly

Nicholas Simone, 87, likes his independence, but sometimes forgets to take his medication for diabetes and high blood pressure. Fortunately for him and his family, QuietCare Plus, a monitoring service from ADT Security Services, who is an NBFAA member company, has found a way to aid them both.

In February, ADT began offering the QuietCare product on a national basis that uses motion detectors and alerts caregivers of possible problems. If an elderly person fails to move around his home within an hour, the system sends out alerts via e-mail or text message. ADT also follows up, calling caregivers to let them know what's happening.

Simone favors the system because it allows him to stay near family but in the comfort of his own home.

OzVision Opens up New Video Monitoring Service Possibilities

NBFAA Associate Member Company OzVision, developer of remote video compression technology for the security, cellular telecommunications and data communications industries , announced that it has partnered with Honeywell to provide the technology for its new video verification module.

Honeywell's V4000 Remote Video System is an OzVision Compatible, “plug-and-play” module that integrates with its VISTA Series alarm panels. The V4000 works like a digital dialer in an alarm panel by dialing in to the central station and transmitting pre and post video clips of a triggered event over standard telephone and cellular lines.

By adding the V4000 module, security dealers can now increase recurring revenue by offering their customers new video monitoring services for security and business management at OzVision Compatible central stations.

False Alarm Dispatch Rate Drops

The false alarm dispatch rate in the nation has dropped, according to a recent survey by the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC).

The dispatch rate declined to 0.9 per alarm system—a drop in dispatches of more than 64 percent over the last seven years.

SIAC studied reports from alarm companies representing approximately 20 percent of the systems monitored nationally.

Executive Director of SIAC Stan Martin said the alarm dispatch rate was determined by dividing the total number of police dispatches by the total number of alarm systems in use in the communities.

The association said they believe the survey results show that communities are taking alarm reduction more seriously.

The implementation of enhanced call verification (ECV) at a growing number of central stations aids in the drop in false dispatches, Martin said.

Communities throughout the United States have taken action to reduce the false dispatch rate including Montgomery County in Maryland. The county was able to lower their dispatch rate with an alarm ordinance, but since the launch of ECV it has seen a drop from 45,000 to 38,000 false dispatch calls.
